Cable Beach bliss in Broome
The golden highlight of this historic pearling town is undoubtedly Cable Beach – best known for camel silhouettes against fiery Indian Ocean sunsets. This 22-kilometre stretch of sun-kissed sand traces the left side of the peninsula and is skirted by some of the most popular Broome resorts in town.
From the five-star Pearle of Cable Beach to the iconic Cable Beach Club Resort and Spa, lavish Broome accommodation is never far from the shoreline. Private villas, multi-bedroom apartments and luxury self-contained "eco tents" all make their way into the four-star rankings, close enough for sunset strolls on the beach and only minutes from the Chinatown shopping district by car.
B&Bs and boutiques by Roebuck Bay
South of the town centre curving toward the end of the Broome peninsula is Roebuck Bay, set against a rust-red beach that showcases the changing colours of the Australian landscape. Beyond being home to the quietly popular Town Beach, Roebuck Bay features a number of accommodation options just south of Broome's town centre.
You will find a pocket of bed and breakfasts on Demco Drive – a short walk from the bright blue waters of the bay – with comfortable spaces for couples on a WA retreat. B&Bs, welcoming inns and youth hostels also extend up the coast into the heart of Broome, ideal for those travelling on a budget.
Fly in, fly out from airport accommodation
You'd be hard pressed to find an airport more conveniently located than Broome International Airport, an easy walk or cheap taxi trip to the heart of town. If you're visiting Broome briefly for business or as an overnight stopover before venturing into the Kimberleys and Australia's great North West, staying close to the airport will have you coming and going with ease.
The Mercure and Oaks four-star hotels are only a five minute drive from the airport, as are a selection of boutique apartments and cosy bed and breakfasts around the suburb of Djugun. If money is no object, Berkeley River is the pick of luxury on the Kimberley Coast, with 20 ocean-view suites surrounded by natural, outback splendour.
