Australian Hotels
Australian hotels are as diverse as the country itself, ranging from shimmering inner-city towers to historic Tasmanian lodges, tropical eco resorts and iconic country pubs. For many visitors to Australia, the seemingly endless sandy coastline is one of the biggest drawcards, and you’ll find plenty of Australian hotels dotted along Australia’s beachfront. There are many styles of Australian accommodation, just as there are many ways to holiday in Australia. Off the coast of Queensland you have the Whitsunday Islands, where you’ll find ultra-luxe 5-star resorts, simple beachside villas and everything in between. Australia’s capital cities offer world-class hotels, business accommodation, family-size apartments – no matter what you’re looking for, you’ll find it in Australia. From the famous northern beaches of Sydney to surf mecca Bondi on the other side of the city; the scenic Great Ocean Road winding its way along Victoria's southern coast to beautiful Broome further afield in Western Australia, great Australian accommodation is easy to find.
Where to stay in Australia
Where you stay in Australia is all about what you plan to do. If you’re set on exploring the red centre, base yourself in Darwin or even closer to the heart of things in Alice Springs. If you want beaches by day and parties by night, the Gold Coast will not disappoint. Sydney is a destination in itself, as well as the perfect starting point for exploring greater New South Wales. Melbourne is Australia’s second-most populous city and a keen rival to Sydney’s glamour, while Brisbane is the most laidback of the three and could be your launching point for exploring Queensland and the Tropical North.
Best time to stay in Australia
Australia is a fantastic place to visit any time of year, although summers in the north can be hot and wet, and winters in the south can be quite chilly. Australia is a vast country, so it really depends where you plan to go. Summertime, from December to February, is when Australian schools break for the holidays, and is regarded as peak season. Other Australian school holidays fall around Easter, in winter (June/July) and in spring (September/October) and this is when holiday accommodation is more sought-after.
Getting around Australia
If you hope see a lot of Australia in a short amount of time, the best way to get around is to fly. The distances are often greater than they seem to be on a map – especially if you’re accustomed to looking at a map of Europe. That said, Australia is also a fantastic destination for a driving holiday, with very good roads and a culture that embraces the road trip. In the cities you’ll find no shortage of options including bus, train, tram, ferry, taxi and other ride-sharing services.
