Choose your style of Brisbane hotel
Brisbane accommodation is ever-evolving, and presents travellers with a whole lot of options. The traditional – yet contemporary – hotel experience is on offer in stylish establishments such as the 4.5-star Hotel Grand Chancellor or lavish 5-star Pullman King George Square. Smaller, boutique hotels in heritage properties can give you that iconic Queenslander experience, while new hotels provide loft-style apartments with rooftop bars. Brisbane also has several budget-friendly hotels to consider such as the neat, tidy and comfortable 3-star Ibis Brisbane.
Where to stay in Brisbane
There are many excellent Brisbane hotels in the city, such as the 5-star Quay West Suites, although if you’re looking for Brisbane accommodation that’s in the heart of the action on weekends as well, you can’t go past Fortitude Valley. Bordering the city and New Farm – another vibrant suburb – Fortitude Valley is home to some of the best-located hotels in Brisbane, like the 3-star Breakfree Fortitude Valley and the stunning, 5-star Flatiron-inspired FV by Peppers. Southbank accommodation is a good choice for families, where you’ll be close to Southbank parklands, the man-made Streets Beach, the Queensland Museum and Brisbane cultural precinct.
Best time to stay in Brisbane
Brisbane gets very hot in summer so if you’re not a fan of heat and humidity, plan your Brisbane travel for anytime between the months of March and October. Winter days are notoriously beautiful, with blue skies, dazzling sunshine and average temperatures that range between 11 and 21 degrees Celsius. The warmer summer months have average temperatures of between 21 and 29.8 degrees Celsius, and afternoon thunderstorms are common.
Getting around Brisbane
Brisbane is an easy city to get around. Public transport includes buses, trains and ferries, all of which you can ride on with a Translink Go Card. You can purchase one of these from the Airtrain ticket booth at Brisbane airport for a $10, refundable deposit. The Go Card also covers you for public transport services to the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast. With its wide, meandering river, Brisbane is also a great city to discover by CityCat, with several stops near popular attractions such as Southbank and Eat Street Northshore.
