Disney fans can now get up close and personal with Iron Man at Hong Kong Disneyland, along with all their favourite Disney characters. The new Iron Man experience, which opened in January, is just one of a raft of additions so far this year. Check out what else is new, and coming up, at Hong Kong Disneyland.
Expansion Plans
The Sleeping Beauty Castle is due for expansion. Image: © DisneyNew themed areas, attractions and entertainment are set to launch almost every year from 2018 to 2023. Disney characters and stories from Marvel and Frozen will be brought to life, with a dedicated Marvel-themed area, and an all-new Frozen-themed area. The Sleeping Beauty Castle will also be transformed, with new daytime and night-time shows and entertainment.
Marvel Super Hero Summer!
Say hi to Spider-Man during the Marvel Super Hero Summer! Image: © DisneyFrom June 14 to September 3, the superhero action will ramp up with the Marvel Super Hero Summer! Iron Man will be joined by Captain America and Spider-Man when meeting guests, and visitors can go through an Avengers mission set in Hong Kong as part of a new walk-through experience in the Pavilion. They can also join Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Dr. Strange and Star-Lord to recover the Portal Nexus.
Disney Explorers Lodge

Image: © DisneyThe 750-room Disney Explorers Lodge opened last month, with rooms furnished according to the tropical climates of Asia, Oceania, South America and Africa. It tells the story of explorers who built a lodge based on their adventures around the world, displaying more than 1,000 artifacts and memorabilia. The waterfront hotel resort also features a large outdoor pool and restaurants serving cuisine from the five continents. Little ones can learn all about different plants and cultures in four international themed gardens – South America’s Kevin Garden (from Up), Oceania’s Little Squirt Garden (from Finding Nemo), Asia’s Hathi Jr Garden (from The Jungle Book) and Africa’s Rafiki Garden (from The Lion King).
Disney Friends Springtime Carnival
See your favourite Disney characters during spring. Image: © DisneyIf you get in quick, you can catch the tail end of the first-of-its-kind Disney Friends Springtime Carnival, where more than 100 Disney Friends appear across the resort until May 28. More than 30 Disney friends take part in the Disney Friends Springtime Processional every afternoon, including Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Chip and Dale in their finest spring outfits. Joining them are Judy and Nick from Zootopia, Alice and the White Rabbit from Alice in the Wonderland, Marie from Aristocats, the Seven Dwarfs, Tigger and Piglet.
Star Ferry Water Tour

Image: © DisneyHong Kong Disneyland has teamed up with the city’s iconic Star Ferry service to take visitors to the theme park from Tsim Sha Tsui. Visitors board the ‘World Star’ Ferry for a 45-minute trip to the park, against the backdrop of Hong Kong’s stunning skyline and beautiful harbour. On the 70-minute return journey, visitors pass the Tsing Ma Bridge, Midstream Operations and the Container Terminals and other Hong Kong landmarks.
Iron Man Experience – Presented by AIA
Take flight in an Iron Wing. Image: © DisneyDisney Parks’ first Marvel-themed ride made its debut in January. The Stark Expo in Tomorrowland takes guests on an adventure, with opportunities to meet Iron Man, try on the Iron Man armour (virtually), and board a special Iron Wing flight vehicle, flying over Hong Kong’s ‘Stark Tower’. More than 70 Disney Imagineers from Hong Kong contributed to the themed area.
