Regardless of the time of day, when staying at 101 Legian in the heart of Kuta, guests will only ever be welcomed with one unique greeting – ‘smart morning’.
Chandra Novita, the hotel’s Associate Director of Sales explains the logic.
“We always want to implement the morning spirit in this hotel. As you know, you are always fresh in the morning and you have a vision of what you’d like to do during the day. This is the morning spirit. Here at 101 Legian we want to encourage the morning spirit at all times of the day. That’s why we never say good evening or good afternoon, we only say smart morning as a greeting,” said Chandra.
The Sky Pool
This interesting philosophy extends beyond a staff member addressing their guests but encompasses the entire 101 Legian experience. There is always something to look forward to both on-site at the hotel and in the immediate area.
“This is the perfect hotel for guests who are young at heart, who like partying and staying in a hip area. We are in Kuta/Legian so there are many nightclubs here including Sky Garden and the Bounty Discotheque which are moments away. You can see a lot of restaurants around and shops. Our location really is in the centre of everything. Just down the road is the world famous Kuta Beach,” said Chandra.
“We have many activities just for our guests. Three nights a week we organise a Sky Pool Party, here at our glorious roof top pool with a barbecue and sexy dancers. The party starts at 3pm and goes until late. On the other nights, we show movies on a big screen just over there. We don’t allow our guests to get bored. When you stay with us you don’t need to think, ‘What should I do?’ We arrange it all.”

The Atma Spa
myTime customers receive a 15 per cent discount on all standard spa treatments at the on-site Atma Spa. After indulging in a two hour spa treatment, you’ll receive an additional 30-minute massage free of charge and there’s a 50 per cent discount on the second treatment. Chandra highly recommends the 60-minute bamboo massage, which uses small bamboo pieces to soothe travel weary muscles. The heated bamboo rolls over the tissue to inspire relaxation and well-being. The Atma Stimulator is a great massage to recover from jet lag as it regenerates the lymphatic flow and the Aloe Body Wrap soothes skin that may have enjoyed just a touch too much Balinese sun.
Couples will love the 15 per cent discount on the romantic candle-lit three-course dinner at the Rooftop Dine & Music Lounge. And there’s also a myTime discount on laundry.
101 Legian must be doing something right. Flight Centre had the exclusive opportunity to inspect construction on an additional 100 rooms that should be ready in April this year. In total the property will boast 300 rooms that range from superior offerings to family rooms and suites. Also in the new section will be an additional swimming pool and bar, lounge restaurant and a second rooftop space that Chandra assures me will be just as comfortable and trendy as the set-up in the main building.
A Superior Room
While it's tempting to spend a relaxing break in and around Kuta, Legian and Seminyak, Chandra does urge holiday-makers to sample the traditional Balinese culture.
“There are a lot of things guests can do on Bali. The island is very traditional. I urge visitors to find out about the Bali traditions – to take a day trip to a temple, to take a day trip to the north. Bali is not all about Kuta. Bali is not always about the beach. It’s great to discover the traditions of Bali and to enjoy the natural beauty with rafting, hiking and trekking. It will give a rounder holiday experience,” she said.
Chandra's advice sounds terrific - after I've enjoyed the fantastic spa treatments, I engage the driving services of Nengah who together with around a dozen other drivers wait at the entrance to 101 Legian ready to show eager tourists around Bali. Nengah recommends that we head north to Tanah Lot, the Taman Ayun Temple, the Monkey Forest Temple in Ubud and the Batur Volcano. In the south, there's the Uluwata Temple, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park and Pandawa Beach with the huge Hindu statues. It seems I have a lot to see.
