Macau has a lot more to offer than just gambling and high-end shopping. If you’re looking to immerse yourself in Macau’s rich history and culture on a budget, the historic centre of Macau is a must-see.

It offers a blend of traditional Portuguese and Chinese buildings, temples, churches and pastel-coloured houses connected by cobblestoned walkways. Key attractions include the Ruins of St Paul’s and St Dominic’s Church.

The historic centre is also a favourite among foodies with small eateries scattered throughout the many alleyways; and don’t forget to try the famous Portuguese egg tarts.

The main expenses will be a small taxi fee, spending money, and any antiques that you may want to buy.

Option 2

‘Casino hopping’ may sound dangerously expensive, but there is a way to enjoy the best of Macau's nightlife on a budget. Most of the major casinos are close together and you can have an entire night out enjoying Macau without spending a penny.

Just like Vegas, you can spend hours walking around each casino, admiring the artwork, free entertainment and interior design.

At the gaming tables

I’d recommend checking out the Venetian Hotel for its incredible interior design, and entertainment that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into the heart of Venice.

I’d also suggest heading to the Wynn Hotel to check out the hourly show at its Performance Lake, as well as the Dragon of Fortune sculpture and show. And lastly, the Grand Lisboa Hotel is known for its elegance and free nightly entertainment.

Known as a gambling mecca, you must roll the dice at one of Macau’s many casinos and integrated resorts. My favourite is the City of Dreams. It’s the largest Australian investment in Macau and includes the Hard Rock Hotel, the Grand Hyatt and our own export, Crown Towers.

It is centrally located, so it gives you easy access to most attractions in the Cotai area. This is one of the largest megaplexes of entertainment I have ever laid my eyes on. You could stay here for your entire visit to Macau.

High-end dining is a must. The three-Michelin-starred Robuchon au Dome in the dome of the Grand Lisboa Hotel is a particular stand-out. With an haute-French menu and stunning views of Macau this is a once-in-a lifetime experience.
