The Gold Coast and the Whitsundays have long been the preferred destinations for students wishing to celebrate the end of high school. While students have a great time partying with their mates at these Queensland locations, here at Flight Centre, we would like to suggest other holiday destinations that schools may like to arrange for their students - these places are sure to offer a rewarding travel experience.
Here are five alternative destinations for students to celebrate the end of high school.
Cambodia
The temples of ancient Angkor including the mesmerising Angkor Wat are sure to captivate young travellers. After seeing the sights near Siem Reap, head to the capital Phnom Penh to admire the Royal Palace. While you're in the region, perhaps consider combining a Cambodian travel experience by giving back to the community and partaking in a volunteer project.
Fiji
For students who'd appreciate a relaxing break mixed with a cultural experience, schools should consider booking a beach break in Fiji. There are terrific snorkelling opportunities in the waterways surrounding the 330 islands and hikers will enjoy exploring the more remote islands including Taveuni, which is known as the Garden Island.
New Zealand
The South Island of New Zealand offers both incredible scenery and many adrenaline-inducing activities. Head to Queenstown - to take the plunge from Kawarau Bridge, the world's first permanent commercial bungy site. Also consider bungying from the Ledge or the Nevis - New Zealand's highest drop at 134 metres. Other fantastic pursuits include jet boating, hiking and mountain biking.
Thailand
Thailand offers a range of travel experiences – such as exploring the frantic pace of the capital, Bangkok, hiking through the astonishing scenery around Chiang Mai in the north and relaxing on a beach on either Koh Samui or Phuket. On the hand, young adventurers may like to see the Bridge on the River Kwai or spend an afternoon placed on top of an elephant.
Bali
The Indonesian island of Bali has long been a favourite for Australian travellers – and with good reason. School leavers will have the opportunity of exploring the beautiful Hindu temples that dot the landscape, admire the unique terrain featuring the iconic rice paddies and relax on the famous beaches. Also worth checking out is Ubud, the artistic heart of the island.
