Many people assume that Langkawi is simply a single island when, in fact, it's an archipelago of 99 islands off the west coast of Malaysia, known as the Jewel of Kedah. The main island, Pulau Langkawi, is a spectacular mix of palm-fringed beaches, tempting ocean and rainforest-covered hills. Langkawi accommodation caters to all holiday budgets and ranges from first-class resorts to simple low-cost hotels so no matter how you wish you enjoy this beautiful part of the world, there’ll be a place to stay that’s just right for you.

Choose your style of Langkawi hotel
Langkawi is somewhat of a hidden gem and still retains much of its original, rugged beauty. With that in mind, it’s no wonder that several exclusive resorts have decided to tuck themselves away amongst the lush surroundings, offering guests the experience of luxury in a pristine environment, such as the 5-star Andaman Langkawi, for example. Other styles of accommodation in Langkawi include budget hotels, serviced apartments, guest houses, good value mid-range hotels and stylish, comfortable 4-star accommodation like Berjaya Langkawi Resort, which is great for families.
Where to stay in Langkawi
Where you stay in Langkawi is all about what kind of holiday you’re looking for and what you’d like to do. If you want a relaxing break by the beach, Pantai Cenang is one of the most popular locations, with a wonderful white-sand beach and host of great restaurants and bars nearby. Pantai Tengah is also a fantastic beach, and popular with families because it’s a little quieter. Pantai Kok will put you in easy reach of attractions such as waterfalls or the cable car, while the busy main town of Kuah is the point of departure and arrival for anyone coming or going by ferry.
Best time to stay in Langkawi
Langkawi enjoys a relatively consistent climate all year round. While the island is always hot and humid, it’s shielded from major winds and storms by the mainland on one side and Sumatra on the other. Langkawi is driest between January and March, and peak season starts around late November, continuing until April. Between April and August, temperatures are a little lower and there are fewer fellow travellers, but there’s a higher chance of afternoon thunderstorms. September to October is the wet season and also regarded as low season.
Getting around Langkawi
Langkawi is relatively easy to get around, with the two most popular options to hire your own car or take a taxi. Taxis are quite easy to flag, although can be expensive. Hiring a car gives you the freedom to go wherever you choose, whenever you choose, and can be pre-arranged before your trip.
