Royal Caribbean International is taking passenger fun to new heights. Quite literally. The renowned cruise line has revealed their newest water slide, which towers more than 45 metres above sea level. It's aptly named The Ultimate Abyss and is one of the many new features of the Harmony of the Seas.
Consisting of a pair of side by side cylindrical slides, it overlooks the AquaTheatre at the aft of the ship. The slide runs from the Pool and Sports Zone on Deck 16 to the Boardwalk on Deck 6. Guests who dare to slip and slide their way down the slide will face a 30 metre drop with a series of twists and turns in a serpentine-like tube that allows them to reach up to speeds of approximately 14 kilometres per hour!
A clever design is meant to build anticipation for an extra thrilling ride as guests are launched from a glass platform that allows them to take one final look at the Boardwalk below. Then it's onto a customised mat to take the plunge! More than just a water slide, though, this thrill ride is equipped with spontaneous sound effects within the twisting 80-centimetre tunnel to provide a multi-sensory experience.
