If you have ever wanted your own personal Jeeves to handle your affairs and generally cater to your every whim, you can pursue the posh travelling life in an upper echelon of holidays that come with butler service. And while there is a difference between a valet (Jeeves, who served a person) and a butler (who serves a household), you’ll hardly notice the difference. From trains and planes to cruises and palaces, here are five holidays that “buttle with the best of them” as P.G. Wodehouse, creator of the fictional character, once wrote.

Hotels

You don’t have to be in Britain to enjoy the services of a butler. Head to Sandals Resorts in Montego Bay, Jamaica, which has partnered with the Guild of Professional English Butlers to provide butlers for its highest level of suites. What do they do? Greet you with lemon-scented hand towels on arrival, escort you to your suite, handle private check-in, unpack your luggage and press your first night’s clothes. You can depend on them to make your dinner reservations, book tours and spa treatments, serve you drinks and lunch on the pool or beach, shine your shoes, escort you to dinner, help you pack and arrange transport to the airport.

It’s white gloves all the way on a luxury cruise with Silversea, where every guest has butler service. The staff to guest ratio is nearly one to one, and your butler is available to pamper you around the clock. Expect to be welcomed to your suite, offered a selection of pillows, and have your luggage unpacked. Your butler can discuss food preferences with the chef, arrange dinner reservations, as well as organise private fitness sessions. Your breakfast will be served in your suite, your shoes polished, your bar replenished, and your bed turned down. For Royal, Grand and Owner’s Suite guests, you can also receive afternoon canapes, and have a bath drawn (scented, of course).

South Africa’s luxury Blue Train travels between Cape Town and Pretoria, and you can enjoy this 5-star hotel on wheels even more with the help of your own butler – from late-night snacks to having your clothes pressed (you’ll need to dress for dinner). Simply call your butler on the train’s telephone system 24 hours a day, from your Luxury Suite, which features twin or double beds, and bath facilities. Admire the amazing scenery of the Cape wine region and Drakenstein Mountains from the observation car or tuck in to high tea in the lounge car.

Palaces

The Rambagh Palace was once the residence of the Maharaja of Jaipur, so they know how to treat a guest. Quite apart from the ceremonial greeting you will receive, which includes decorated camels, horses and elephants, plus a traditional thali welcome, the palace butlers will guarantee unforgettable moments.  You will be treated like a personal guest of the Maharaja, and your butler can organise private dining, or private heritage walks through the palace, built in 1835.

Planes

You’ll be flying high with Etihad if you’re in The Residence – basically a flying suite, with a living room, bedroom and ensuite shower room. Best of all, it comes with an Etihad butler – trained at the Savoy Hotel, no less – who will look after you from take-off to touchdown. Attention to detail is paramount, and the word ‘no’ is almost never in your butler’s vocabulary.
