And with a mighty big splash, Wet’n’Wild Sydney is officially open to the public this weekend. Cheekily branded as the, ‘world’s Biggest’n’Best water theme park,’ Western Sydney’s new attraction cost $135 million and is expected to generate $500 million in economic activity.
At the launch, the NSW Tourism Minister George Souris said the park, which sits on 62 hectares in Prospect promises to be a great asset.
“The park will provide yet another unique tourist experience, and will make NSW an even more attractive prospect for potential visitors. This will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the State’s visitor economy and will be a much-needed boost for surrounding businesses and employment in Western Sydney,” said Mr Souris.
Opening until 11pm, the park’s General Manager Chris Warhurst encourages visitors to arrive when they like and stay for the evening’s entertainment.
"You can be an early bird and arrive at 10 or arrive for the lunch shift. We expect many guests will arrive as the day cools to catch twilight time or come after dark to watch the amazing light and sound show. Loads of different experiences are possible each day,” said Chris.
Following in the footsteps of the water park on the Gold Coast, Wet’n’Wild Sydney boasts more than 40 rides, slides and attractions.
Daredevils will want to experience the world’s tallest double SkyCoaster – where you’re raised 75 metres into the air before free falling at speeds of up to 60 kilometres per hour. There’s also the 360RUSH, a 360 degree looping waterslide and Bombora, a 121 metre slide that feeds into breaking waves. Perhaps the Aqua Tube or the H2Go Racers is more your style? The kids will love the 91 metre Typhoon and the Double Bowlseye, a multi-person raft that swirls 360 degrees before sliding through the tube.
After entering the park, fun seekers may appreciate the freedom of MyBand. This stylish silicon wrist band allows you to upload cash so when it comes to purchasing food and beverages there's no need to continually return to your locker. Using innovative RFID technology, you can top up your account from any retail outlet or designated kiosk during the day or from home for Season Pass holders.
To make your visit even more special, hire a cabana for the day. The beach view cabanas have great views over the wave pool and feature a love seat and private sun lounges. There are also family cabanas situated in the children's area that make the perfect home base for your clan. For the ultimate experience, the VIP cabanas come complete with a lounge, television, refrigerator and a shared concierge to look after all your food and beverage needs.
The Co-Chairman of Village Roadshow Graham Burke was full of praise for everyone involved in bringing the vision to reality.
“Village Roadshow set out to create the best water theme park in the entire world. I have no doubt we have achieved this,” he said.
