Travel News: Bali Travel Alert Now At Highest Level After Further Eruptions From Mt Agung Volcano

Bali is experiencing mostly clear skies today and flights in and out of Denpasar have resumed.

News on airports:

Denpasar's Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) reopened late yesterday afternoon (local time). There is no guarantee that Australian carriers will operate flights in the coming hours and the airport may close again at any time.

Further to the recent information below, please note the following airport and airline updates due to the ongoing effects of the Mt Agung Volcano, Bali:

Denpasar's Ngagurah Rai Airport (DPS) continues to remain closed and will until further notice.
Lombok International Airport (LOP) is currently open with flights operating by Garuda, Silkair, Citilink,Lion Air, and AirAsia.
Semarang Ahmad Yani Airport (SRG) is also open and operating.
Buses are regularly leaving Kuta for Surabaya's Juanda International Airport (SUB) (a 12 hour journey from Kuta). Currently the cost for a one way bus ticket is 300.000 IDR.
Buses are leaving for Jakarta as soon as they are full (this is a 24 hour trip). Currently the cost for one way is 300.000 IDR. Buses are currently leaving regularly from 07:00 till 20:00.

The latest information on the situation in Bali:

Mt Agung continues to spew ash and smoke and now large volcanic rocks have been found up to 4 kilometres from the summit.
The ash cloud has now reached heights up to 10,000 metres.
Scientists predict that a major eruption is imminent.
The exclusion / evacuation zone around the volcano is currently 10 kilometres and all residents and visitors in that area are advised to leave immediately.
Kuta, Ubud, Seminyak and the other popular beach areas are not affected by the volcano.

Flights

The Denpasar Airport (DPS) and Lombok International Airport (LOP) remain closed today, Wednesday 29 November with all flights suspended today.
Garuda (GA) has also cancelled at least two flights for Thursday 30 November.

UPDATE 29/11/2017

Due to the ongoing ash cloud eruption from Mt Agung and the prevailing winds that are bringing it in range of Denpasar, the airport will remain closed until further notice.

Garuda (GA) and other airlines have cancelled flights scheduled for today, Wednesday 27th November.

**UPDATE 27/11/2017 2pm**

Denpasar's Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) will remain closed for 24 hours (at least until the morning of 28 November). This means that all flights, in and out are currently suspended. All in-destination tours are operating as normal and apart from the 10 kilometre exclusion zone around Mt Agung, it is business as usual for visitors on the ground in Bali.

Our travel update on the situation in Bali: There were further eruptions from Mt Agung overnight and the alert for the volcano is now at the highest level. Indonesia's Volcano Observatory Notice for Aviation (VONA) has also extended the exclusion zone from 7.5 kilometres around the volcano to 10 kilometres. Immediate evacuations have been ordered.

The ash cloud has now reached heights exceeding 4,500 metres and yesterday caused the closure of Lombok's airport. The map below shows the location of the volcano.

It has just been announced that Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport in Denpasar has been closed and is expected to remain so for a number of hours.

Any travellers currently in Bali should continue to follow the advice of local authorities and stay well away from the volcano exclusion zone.
