Talking Travel with Luke Goss of Bros Fame

They were the ultimate 80s pin-ups. Pretty boy British twins whose good looks and infectious tunes saw them rule the pop charts for close to a decade.

Notching up a string of worldwide hits, such as 'I Owe You Nothing', 'Too Much' and juggernaut, 'When Will I Be Famous,' BROS’ debut album went 7x platinum and was number one in 20 countries, including Australia.  From 1987 to 1991 Matt and Luke Goss helmed the pioneering boy band and following their split, Luke swapped the mic for the camera, moving to Hollywood and scoring big screen roles in the likes of “Blade II”, “Hellboy II” and the recent Emmy award-winning mini-series 'Frankenstein'.

Luke and Matt Bros. Luke and Matt Goss are coming to Aussie shores.

Now, fresh on the heels of their British comeback tour (the first London show sold out in seven seconds) the twosome are set to return Down Under - 29 years since their last visit - for a special one off Sydney show. Ahead of this 48-year-old Luke opens up to Flight Centre about his travel tips and tricks.

What's your favourite holiday?

The Caribbean - without a doubt. Every time I go there’s a perfect mixture of resting on pristine beaches, water skiing and scuba diving. I always make sure to pick a place with a great view of the ocean and to surround myself with people I love. That’s what really makes it. Saying that, it's been awhile since I've had a holiday.

Beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. Luke loves sun-kissed holidays in the Caribbean.

What's your carry-on essential?

Moisturiser. It stops me getting off the plane looking like a dried prune! Aside from that, I always take my noise cancelling headphones to help try and get some sleep. Also, my iPad - loaded with music and movies - and lastly a spare clean t-shirt, just for those inevitable in-flights spills!

How do you beat jet lag?

I start by changing my watch to the time at my destination before taking off. I tell myself that's the new time zone, I embrace it and just don't consider where I've just come from. It seems to work! Also, I’ll start the new day with a cup of earl grey tea.

What's your favourite country for touring in?

Whether it be for film or music, I love to travel. Australia, Germany, UK have always been great places to play live and when it comes to my film career, it's a real global journey and experience. And I love it and I'm very thankful I get to do it.

Bros will be in Sydney for a one-off Australian show in November.

Adventure or luxury?

Both. Luxurious adventure would be ideal, but I have no problem with roughing it when needed.

What's the essential ingredient for a good trip?

If it’s recreational, don't over plan it. Allow the destination to find you as much as you find it. I stay away from tours because I like to find things off the beaten path. That’s really important to me, getting a real insight into a destination rather than solely hitting the tourist hotspots.

What's your top travel tip?

Make a printed version of important information, contact numbers et cetera to give to your assistant. Ha, I’m kidding! But seriously, choose your accommodation wisely - it's your home base so you should like it. In business, it can make a tough day okay and on a recreational trip it can be the icing on the cake. Also, always carry cash so those late night credit card security checks won't bother you.

Road through forest in Germany. Germany is favourite spot, but wherever Luke goes, he strives to "embrace the journey".

What's your biggest packing mistake?

Too many leather jackets is the fastest way to make your luggage overweight on the baggage check in, which I’ve learned from past experience. And another ongoing error of mine is forgetting to pack travel power converters. Such an obvious packing mistake but one I repeat time and time again.

Where do you want to go next?

I'd love a vacation when I get some time off, but honestly, I don’t have a destination in mind. I’m a nomadic person, so I enjoy exploring wherever I end up. I just embrace the journey.

BROS will play a special one off Australian show in Sydney on Saturday November 4 at Qudos Bank Arena in Olympic Park.
