Unless you’ve been hiding under a large monolithic rock (ahem, Uluru), you know that Sunday’s 2018 Super Bowl in the USA was kind of a big thing. And it’s not just about the gridiron game (big congrats to the Philadelphia Eagles on your historic win, btw), the TV advertisements that air during the Super Bowl screening garner just as much attention, reaching a worldwide audience much farther than the broadcast reach.
Tourism Australia got in the game this year with a much-talked about ad that appeared to be a trailer for an upcoming film in the classic ‘80s Crocodile Dundee series – Dundee: The Son of a Legend Returns.
Featuring a star-studded lineup of well-known Hollywood actors with Aussie backgrounds, including Tourism Australia ambassador Chris Hemsworth, Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, Ruby Rose, Isla Fisher, Russell Crowe, Paul Hogan and many more, this Super Bowl ad spot has created plenty of buzz for Australia as a holiday destination.
Here’s the locations around Australia that were featured in the Tourism Australia Super Bowl spot:
Boodjamulla National Park, NT/Qld
Covering Lawn Hill Gorge and the World Heritage Site of Riversleigh, this national park on the border of the Northern Territory and Queensland is like a verdant oasis in the desert with its jewelled green waters and lush foliage.
Mission Beach, Qld
Sitting between Cairns and Townsville on the Queensland coast, this beachside town is a gateway to two World Heritage Sites: the Great Barrier Reef and Wet Tropics Rainforest, making it a must-visit site.
Great Barrier Reef, Qld
One of Australia’s most famous natural wonders, the Great Barrier Reef stretches 2,300km to make it world’s largest coral reef system. With 600 islands, thousands of coral reefs and 300 coral cays to explore, it’s an underwater wonderland.
Quay Restaurant, NSW
Sydneysiders and frequent visitors to Australia’s biggest city would have spied the Circular Quay location of this multi award-winning restaurant, with its backdrop of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Sydney Harbour, NSW
A site that needs no introduction, the iconic landmarks of Sydney Harbour were also immortalised in another ‘80s throwback: Aussie artist Ken Done’s recognisable artworks. Sydney Harbour boasts over 240km of shoreline as well as those big-name attractions.
Kangaroo Island, SA
This island, 13km off the South Australian coast and a half-hour plane ride from Adelaide, is famous for its unique native animals and pristine nature. Kangaroo Island is also well known as a foodie destination for artisanal produce.
Montalto Winery, Vic
Located on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, the award-winning Montalto Vineyard and Olive Grove produces cool-climate drops such as pinot noir, shiraz, rosé and chardonnay. There’s an onsite restaurant and cafe where you can soak up the ambience.
Cable Beach, WA
With its idyllic sunrises and sunsets, Broome’s Cable Beach is a stunning vibrant contrast of stark white sand, turquoise Indian Ocean waters and rich, red soil. It’s a beachgoer’s sun-drenched haven with gentle rolling surf along a 22km shoreline.
