Now, I'll preface this blog post by saying I love my job. Working in travel is a fantastic industry where the topic is always fresh and inspiring. But some days, I love my job more than usual and today is one of those days.

We received a phone call from A Current Affair a few weeks ago asking for our help.

Q1 on the Gold Coast beachfront

A deserving family impacted by cancer had been dobbed in by a friend as needing some support. Brett, a 33-year-old father from Brisbane, has beaten Ewings Sarcoma (a very aggressive form of cancer) twice already, but recently received a third diagnosis. He has sadly been given 18 months to live.

Last year, the family bought a house on an overgrown block, with friends pitching in to clear it of debris. A Current Affair hatched a plan and worked behind the scenes to secure a landscape architect who brought with him a large team of tradespeople, technicians and other well-wishers to secretly transform the overgrown block into an idyllic family retreat.

It was all to be a huge surprise for Brett, partner Casey and their two-year-old son Jack. So we asked our friends at Q1 on the Gold Coast to send them off on a family holiday for seven nights. They certainly holidayed in style in a two-bedroom apartment with a free pass to the Q1 Observation Deck.

A Current Affair aired the episode live tonight, as Brett, Casey and Jack returned from their well-deserved break to find their backyard oasis.

On behalf of Flight Centre, we'd like to say a big thank you to A Current Affair for inviting us to be part of such a worthy cause and to our friends at Q1 on the Gold Coast for their support.

We hope you enjoy your brand new landscaped garden Brett, Casey and Jack!
