Planning that holiday to the thrilling cities, lush countryside and welcoming vibes of Vietnam is now even easier (and cheaper). From February 1, 2018, Australian travellers will be able to go online and receive their electronic Vietnam tourist visas in just 72 hours. Australia will be one of 40 countries eligible to apply for the e-visas under the proposed two-year pilot plan, according to the VN Express International news website.
As it stands, currently Aussies wanting to travel to Vietnam on holiday have to go online and complete a visa application form via the Government of Vietnam website, then print the form and take it to your closest Consultate or Embassy of Vietnam. Processing takes around three working days from when your documentation is received for your tourist visa to be issued.
With the change to electronic tourist visa applications, the new online process will require applicants to fill out a form, receive an application code and then pay a non-refundable fee on the English-language website run by the Ministry of Public Security. Succesful visa applicants will know of visa approvals within three working days and then be able to print their e-visas to present on arrival. Other countries set to benefit from the introduction of Vietnam's e-visas early next year are the USA, UK, China, Japan, South Korea, Germany and Sweden, which, like Australia, are all key tourism markets for the Southeast Asia country.
The single-entry e-visas to Vietnam will be available for 30 days.
