National Parks

More than one third of the island is dedicated to national and conservation parks. Flinders Chase National Park is the biggest, taking up most of Kangaroo Island’s western side. Here you'll find the wind-sculpted Remarkable Rocks, Seal Bay and Admiral’s Arch.

Seal Bay

The Seal Bay Conservation Park is a 45-minute drive from Kingscote (the main township on KI) and has regular guided tours to see the endangered Australian sea-lions. Guided tour tickets can be purchased from Seal Bay Visitor Information Centre.
Beach access to the sea-lion colony is by guided tour only but sea-lions can also be seen from the self-guided boardwalk that meanders through the limestone cliffs and dunes to viewing platforms. You can watch the sea-lions surfing the waves and sunning themselves on the beach.

Admirals Arch

Admirals Arch is located a short distance from Cape du Couedic in the Flinders Chase National Park. Here you can admire the spectacular natural rock arch that has been carved out by weathering and erosion over thousands of years. You'll also be able to observe the colony of New Zealand fur-seals on the rock platforms nearby.

How to get there
You can ferry or fly to Kangaroo Island from Adelaide.
Kangaroo Island SeaLink operates two large, comfortable vehicle and passenger ferries, between Cape Jervis (approx. two hour drive from Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula) and Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island. There are four departures daily, with additional services during peak times. Bookings are necessary. Travelling time is a 45 minutes.
Mainland coach connections are available to/from Adelaide and Goolwa to Cape Jervis. Island connections are available to/from Penneshaw to American River and Kingscote.
Kangaroo Island is also serviced daily by air. The 30-minute flight operates between the main terminal at the Adelaide Airport and Kingscote KI Airport (which is located 14 kilometres from Kingscote).
