Air travel really has come leaps and bounds in the last few years, and Virgin Australia isn’t being left behind. In fact, the airline is leading the way on many fronts, making it increasingly attractive for business travellers. So what exactly is it that makes Virgin Australia such a  great business travel choice?

Economy X

In 2017 VA announced a number of improvements to their fleet. One of the biggest improvements being the introduction of Economy X seating. While Business Class and even Premium Economy can be costly, the good news is that Economy X comes at a much smaller price. Platinum Velocity members in fact, can reserve Economy X seats at no extra charge. Other guests can reserve the seats at the time of booking, and prices vary depending on the length of the flight.

The benefits however, are numerous. Priority screening and boarding, extra legroom and priority overhead locker space are standard across all flights. On long haul international flights, Economy X guests also receive a guaranteed first meet choice and premium noise-cancelling headphones.

Inflight WiFi

Travelling for business means staying connected is crucial, and Virgin’s inflight WiFi means you can keep on top of work even at 30,000 feet. Launched early in 2017, both domestic and international flights are now connected, making it possible to stay in touch with colleagues and clients - crucial if you’re organising meetings for when you land at the other end.

Improved menus and wine blends

In April 2017, VA was named Best for Onboard Beverages at the Onboard Hospitality Awards for The Duo, a customised wine they developed in partnership with Barossa Valley winery St Hallett and Fine Wine Partners. The wine was developed specifically to be drunk at high altitude, and to compliment ‘The Business’ menu designed by celebrity chef Luke Mangan. The reasoning for this is that research has shown that the white noise, low humidity and low pressure in the aircraft cabin at altitude affect our taste buds and senses, thus the flavours in our food and wine change.

What’s new this year?

Virgin Australia announced this week they’ll be commencing daily return flights from Sydney to Hong Kong in mid 2018. This comes seven months after VA launched its new Melbourne-Hong Kong route, with ceo John Borghetti saying "expanding our presence into Greater China is a key pillar of our international strategy". With China one of Australia’s biggest trade partners, and a large number of global organisations either already there or moving in, the need for flights that meet business travellers requirements is, of course, increasing.
