The safari capital
The starting point for many tours in Kenya is Nairobi. Touring the country's lively capital will allow you to visit sights including the National Museums of Kenya, the 120-acre Giraffe Centre, and Bomas of Kenya, a traditional village display of Kenyan tribes.
It's a great place to spend a day or two, but Nairobi isn't nicknamed 'the safari capital of the world' for nothing. It offers access to some of Africa's best national parks and many visitors prefer to jump straight onto one of the number of Kenyan tours that depart from the city and head to the nearby Nairobi National Park, or even deeper into the Kenyan countryside.
Go wild
Most popular tour itineraries include a visit to Kenya's three most famous attractions, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and – the mother of them all – Maasai Mara National Reserve. Safaris through the reserve will have you witnessing such sights as the great wildebeest migration. Alternatively spot pink flamingos and hippos in the waters of the country's two famous lakes.
From Amboseli National Park you can not only spot elephants, hippos and leopards but also Mount Kilimanjaro off in the distance on a clear day. The sight might have you dreaming of greater heights, and you can reach them by taking a tour to the Mount Kenya National Park. Though climbing the whole 4,985 metres isn't for the feint hearted, a number of guided climbing tours will take you as close to the peak as you'd like to go.
