Heading north
One of Australia's newest trains, the Tilt Train came into service between Brisbane and Rockhampton in 1997. Six years later a diesel version came into being and the Tilt Train extended its range all the way to tropical Cairns. Nowadays the full journey to Cairns takes just under a day and countless willing passengers and rail enthusiasts enjoy the scenic 1,691-kilometre trip along the snaking coastline.
The Tilt Train is administered by Queensland Rail and passengers enjoy comfortable reclinable seating, personal entertainment systems, galley service dining options and at-seat trolley service providing light snacks and refreshments. Power points are available at each seat and blankets and pillows are available on request.
