HIGHLIGHTS:

Glasgow - Arran - Arran - Oban Area - Oban Area - Luss - Luss

Day 1 Glasgow (Scotland)

Welcome to wee bonnie Scotland! Here, over a week’s worth of lochs, landscapes, lore and local treats await, starting with our hearty welcome meal together.

Glasgow is famed for its naughty-but-nice, battered-and-fried delicacies like the ‘pizza crunch’ – stodgy, carb-rich food that once fuelled the city’s shipbuilding industry. Our dinner will be a more refined affair, but there’s certainly time to seek out a deep-fried Mars bar later...

Day 2 Glasgow – New Lanark – Arran

Can you hear the distant, rhythmic rush of water? We’ll step back into the 18th century at New Lanark cotton mill village this morning.

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a living testament to the bold vision of its founder, who believed a happy, healthy workforce was more productive. Amble through its perfectly preserved stone streets and listen out for the echoes of its busy past (and perhaps the pitter-patter of tiny feet – the world’s first nursery was opened here too!). Be sure to take in the mossy scent of the River Clyde with a leisurely stroll along its picturesque banks. Afterwards, we’ll weave along the Clyde Coast in our luxury minicoach, where the scenery opens up into wide, bracing sea views. Feel the gentle thrum of the ferry as we cross the water to the Isle of Arran – known as ‘Scotland in Miniature’ – our atmospheric home for the next two nights. This afternoon, the island’s warm charm is yours to enjoy at your own pace. Oh, and its traditional, wax-sealed cheeses – Arran’s creamy cheddar (often infused with caramelised onion, mustard or local whisky) is a must-try!

Day 3 Arran

Is that the shrill whistle of a golden eagle? Or the rustle of a stag in the bracken? You’ll need your binoculars on standby this morning as we head out on a unique safari experience to spot Arran’s more elusive residents.

As we roam through the island’s terrain, our local guide will share its secrets – entwining its history, culture and ecology to truly connect us to the heart of the isle. Watch out for the occasional flash of ginger as a red squirrel scurries past into the ancient woodlands... Once we’ve waved goodbye to our new wild friends, the afternoon is yours for relaxing. Steam happily away in the hotel’s tranquil spa, or sit back with a local tipple – Arran’s single-malt whisky is soft, sweet and a just a little bit spicy, perfect for warming the cockles (and pairing with that cheese you promised yourself you wouldn’t open...).

Day 4 Arran – Oban Area

After a final island breakfast (and perhaps one last soak in the pool), the mainland is calling.

Here, enigmatic Kilmartin Glen has a story or two to share: a Neolithic and Bronze Age landscape practically vibrating with history. Trace the mysterious weathered patterns of ancient cup-and-ring marked rocks and stand in the shadows of ancient stones. There’s a profound stillness here, punctuated only by the occasional call of a raven or whistle of the breeze through the cairns. Our Tour Leader’s tales might send a little shiver down your spine... Known as the ‘Glen of Ghosts’ it’s said that the veil between the present and past is especially thin here. Keep your wits about you as you gaze up at the rugged silhouettes of forts and castles perched on the hillsides. You never know what you might spot! As the afternoon light begins to soften, we’ll make our way to the vibrant harbour town of Oban – the seafood capital of Scotland. Here we’ll end the day exactly as explorers should: gathered around a table for a group dinner and chatting over the day’s discoveries.

Day 5 Oban Area

Towering Himalayan lilies that seemingly graze the sky.

Shockingly blue Tibetan poppies that nod cheerfully in the breeze. Yes, you’re still in Scotland! A firework of colour and fragrance, the lush clifftop sanctuary of Arduaine Garden will take us on a scented world tour this morning – a heady treat for all the senses. Created in 1898 during a golden era of botanical curiosity, it’s a living tapestry of the rare, exotic and beautiful. You might even catch a still-curious seal breaking water in the sea below as you make your way around. Next, we’ll continue on to Oban, where our expert Tour Leader will help us get our bearings before offering suggestions for lunch. The lively clatter of the docks, the salty air filling your lungs... we’d say a portion of piping-hot fish and chips might be on the cards! Then, the afternoon will take a dramatic turn as the imposing ruins of Dunstaffnage Castle and Chapel come into view. Guarding the entrance to Loch Etive since the 13th century, this formidable fortress is one of the country’s oldest stone strongholds. As you run your fingers over the weather-worn masonry, feel the weight of centuries of history – from royal coronations to bloody betrayals – etched into every stone.

Day 6 Oban Area – Glencoe – Luss

The raw, cinematic beauty of the Highlands is our backdrop this morning as we wind through the magnificent Glencoe valley.

The air here feels different here – charged with the drama of the brooding mountains that surround us. Look out at the jagged ridges and deep scars in the rock, forged by ancient volcanic eruptions and carved by the slow, crushing weight of glaciers thousands of years ago. Deep in the heart of the glen, we’ll stop at the Glencoe Visitor Centre to uncover the haunting story of the 1692 Massacre – the start of a long, bitter feud between two Scottish clans. It’s a sombre, moving chapter of local history, made all the more poignant by the silence of the misty peaks that stood witness to it all. Next, our journey continues into the verdant, rolling greenery of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. Here our Tour Leader’s expertise truly shines as we bypass the crowded lay-bys and seek out hidden viewpoints for that perfect, quiet moment of reflection. We’ll end our day in the pretty village of Luss, where the scent of climbing roses and the gentle lap of the loch against the shore provide a peaceful finish to a day of discovery.

Day 7 Luss

All aboard! We’re taking to the water again this morning for a scenic cruise across the glassy expanse of Loch Lomond.

There’s something special about seeing the mountains, ancient forests and distant islands from the middle of the loch – keep your eyes peeled for the resident ospreys too, as we might pass them tending to their nests along the shoreline. Back on dry land, the afternoon is yours to explore Luss at your own speed. The history hunters among us might like to wander to the 19th-century parish church – not just to see the mystical light pouring through its Victorian stained-glass windows, but to find the Viking ‘hogback’ gravestone tucked away in the churchyard. It’s a tangible, 1,000-year-old reminder of the Norse explorers who once sailed these very waters. Finally, our last dinner together is upon us. Time to share Scottish stories, linger over the landscapes that will stay with us for many years to come, and discover who’s really managed to save some of that Arran cheese to take back home!

Day 8 Luss – Edinburgh – Glasgow

A city of two halves and a thousand stories: Edinburgh is the final stop on our Scottish adventure.

After a relaxed drive through the grand, sweepingly elegant streets of the New Town we'll make our way to the historic Royal Mile. Look out for the contrast between the soot-stained tenements and the proud stone monuments that make this city so uniquely captivating. Then, there's time to uncover its secrets for yourself. Climb the cobblestones to the looming medieval castle, duck into a hidden ‘close’ to reveal a courtyard garden (or cosy pub), or simply soak up the city's creative energy in a local café (ideally with a roll and haggis in hand). When it's time to head off, the choice is yours: you can wrap up your journey here in the heart of the capital or settle back into the minicoach for one last leg back to Glasgow. Either way, that’s where we’ll say our fond goodbyes – until next time!
