Visit Ireland
Begin your road trip in Belfast, Northern Ireland's capital, where you can explore the city's rich history, including the Titanic Quarter and murals of the Peace Walls. From Belfast, take the scenic Causeway Coastal Route to Londonderry (Derry), stopping to admire the Giant's Causeway and Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge. In Derry, walk along the 17th-century city walls and visit the Museum of Free Derry to learn about the city's turbulent past. From here, cross the border into Ireland and head southwest to Sligo, known for its stunning coastal landscapes and ties to poet W.B. Yeats. Don't miss the dramatic Benbulben Mountain or the serene Glencar Waterfall.
Continue your journey south to Galway, a vibrant city known for its lively streets, arts scene, and proximity to the rugged beauty of Connemara. Spend time exploring Galway's Latin Quarter and take a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher or the Aran Islands. Next, head to Limerick, where you can visit the medieval King John's Castle before driving to Killarney, nestled in the heart of County Kerry. Explore Killarney National Park, and take the scenic Ring of Kerry drive, a highlight of any Irish road trip. From there, make your way to Cork, stopping in the charming town of Kinsale for a taste of fresh seafood. Finally, end your journey in Dublin, Ireland's bustling capital. Visit Trinity College, stroll through St. Stephen's Green, and enjoy a pint of Guinness at the famous St. James's Gate Brewery.
Days 1 - 2 Belfast. You'll begin your Irish adventure in Belfast, the bustling capital of Northern Ireland. The so called home of the Thrones, Northern Ireland was used for filming much of the blockbuster TV series Game of Thrones', so for fans of the show you will be able to visit the sights with many tours departing from Belfast. Whilst in Belfast, you must visit the Titanic museum, telling the story of the conception of the Titanic through until its fateful maiden voyage in 1912.
Day 3 Derry to Londonderry.Continue your journey on towards Derry-Londonderry, the only completely intact walled city in Ireland. On the way there, drive via the Giants Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge for some picturesque views. With a rich history, Derry-Londonderry is significant both for its centuries old history and more recent history - including its role in the Troubles of the latter half of the 20th century. After discovering more at the Museum of Free Derry, why not take a drive out of the city to enjoy the striking landscapes of County Donegal.
Day 4 Sligo.Heading West out of Derry, you'll arrive into the town of Sligo. With rugged landscapes and a rich literary history, Sligo is a beautiful stopping point on the Wild Atlantic Way. With strong connections to the Irish poet W.B. Yeats, you can learn more about his connections and inspirations at the Yeats Memorial Building, or pay respects at his grace in Drumcliff Churchyard.
Days 5 to 6 Galway.Continuing on to Galway, this vibrant city is known for its historic buildings, vibrant food scene, and the rich Irish traditions that are celebrated to this day. As the festival capital of Ireland, there is always something going on in Galway - whether film, cartoon, music, food, arts, literature or more. Wander through the Latin Quarter, and search for the ideal pub to enjoy your evening in - all to the sound of live traditional Irish music.
Galway is also an ideal gateway to explore the landscapes of Ireland, with Connemara, the Aran Islands and the cliffs of Moher all being in close proximity to the city. As one of the most popular tourist sights in Ireland, the Cliffs of Moher offer a dramatic view out along the coast, where you can take in the sights of the thrashing Atlantic ocean as it crests and breaks along the shore.
Days 7 - 8 Limerick. For those who drive down the South West,
There's a town that leaves them all impressed.
With it's castle and art,
The food markets and parks,
Many say that Limerick is the best.
Days 9 - 10 Killarney. In the south west of Ireland, Killarney is an ideal base for exploring the breathtaking landscapes and natural beauty within this part of Ireland. Located on the Ring of Kerry scenic drive, the pristine beauty and charming villages of South West Ireland are yours to explore - whilst the drive itself may only take 3.5 hours, give yourself plenty of time to stop off and explore, and discover the friendly local charm. For outdoor enthusiasts, a day can easily be spent hiking and exploring Killarney National Park - with lush woodland, waterfalls, rugged landscapes and pristine lakes.
Days 11 - 12 Cork. The second largest city in Ireland, Cork is the undeniable culinary capital of Ireland. With a thriving bar and restaurant scene, as well as the best covered Market in the UK and Ireland', Cork is a must visit spot for any foodie. The English Market is the best place to sample the tastes of Cork - with vendors selling local meats, cheese, baked goods, and traditional Irish specialties.
One of the true treasures of Ireland, Blarney Castle and Gardens are one of the most visited sights in this part of Ireland. Legend has it that those who kiss the Blarney stone are given the gift of the gab' - but we'll leave it to you to find out whether or not that's true.
Days 13 - 14 Dublin. What better place to finish your Irish road trip than in the charming capital of Dublin. Known for its history and charm, the beautiful buildings at Trinity College are an unmissable stop when walking through the city. With a vibrant and thriving bar scene, the neighbourhood of Temple bar is world renowned - and if there is one thing that the Irish know how to do, it's how to have a great night out. Home of the black gold, what visit to Dublin would be complete without a trip to the Guinness Storehouse. Detailing the history of this iconic Irish brand, you can immerse yourself in the story of Guinness - and enjoy a pint to finish up your tour. Considering they say that the Guinness tastes better the closer you get to the source, there is a pretty good chance this may be the best pint of Guinness you have in your life.
