Uruaguay is bordered by Brazil and Argentina, with a south Atlantic coastline and a subtropical climate. Your introduction to the country is likely to be via Montevideo – the hub of commerce and higher education here, with architecture reflective of its Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French and British immigrants. Popular with celebs, Argentines and Brazilians, bring your beach-ready body if you're coming to this part of the world. Where you won't find any beach bronzing going on is in Uruguay's heartland, at Tacuarembó, deep in gaucho country.
