About Nepal

While Mount Everest is justifiably famous as the highest mountain in the world; Nepal is actually home to ten of the highest peaks on the planet. As such this is a hiker's paradise with stunning trails that traverse throughout jaw-dropping scenery - there is certainly more to the country than just heading to Base Camp. Aside from Everest, other important trekking regions include Annapurna and Langtang. A great way of enjoying the countryside is what has been dubbed tea-house trekking - this is where lodges provide you with everything for the night and to prepare you for the next exhilarating day.

For travellers who'd like a different Nepalese experience, consider taking a rafting trip on one of the country's beautiful rivers including the Bhote Koshi, Sun Kosi and the Kali Gandaki. There are tour companies that will arrange the expedition for you - many start from either Kathmandu or Pokhara.

After experiencing the natural beauty of the country, return to the Nepalese capital, Kathmandu for some city based sight-seeing. The big ticket attractions include the Swayambhu, the Narayanhiti Palace Museum and the Garden of Dreams. Also on the list must be Durbar Square, a beautiful historic square that's surrounded by incredible architecture.

Best time to fly – Nepal weather

Nepal, like its neighbour, India, is influenced by the monsoons during the summer. The best time to fly to Nepal is when monsoon season starts to taper off, in September. At this time of year, Nepal experiences clear skies and fresh crisp air which makes for high visibility and incredible views. For trekking, October and November are two of the best months to visit due to the clear, dry weather.
