For an enthralling and indeed educational experience, take a half day tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels, about an hour's bus trip out of the city. This preserved network of tunnels is where the Viet Cong hid out during the Vietnam War. If you're not claustrophobic, have a go at crawling through a narrow, 100 metre long tunnel to experience what it was like for the soldiers.
