Rock and roll

The eclectic pocket of West Hollywood is the stomping ground of musicians and artists alike, many of whom got their big break along the illustrious Sunset Strip. The who’s who of rock gods and goddesses has stayed in ‘WeHo’, catapulting these now iconic hotels into the limelight.

The Andaz West Hollywood’s proximity to the Whisky a Go Go club made it the hotel of choice for bands like the Rolling Stone. Once known as the ‘Riot House’, today’s Andaz is a chic urban oasis featuring L.A’s highest rooftop pool. The Sunset Tower and Ramada Plaza are other glamorous options that have hosted their fair share of Hollywood royalty, rock stars and scandals.

All that glitters...

While rock-n-roll has its roots in Hollywood’s western fringe, that’s not to say the area doesn’t appeal to young trendsetters. Robertson Boulevard is brimming with bespoke boutiques, and you can dart in and out of stores while dodging the paparazzi before returning to the sophisticated confides of your deluxe West Hollywood hotel.

The Mondrian is a boutique option right on the Sunset Strip. Its Skybar lounge is the place to be seen after the sun sets, and the hotel also features bespoke furnishings and an indoor Lucite swing. Alternatively, the Chateau Marmont, modelled on a Loire Valley castle, is an infamous celebrity hideaway that still sparkles with old Hollywood romance thanks to its lavish cottages and bungalows, cosy bar and celebrated restaurant.

Budget-friendly options

West Hollywood doesn’t need to be all glamour and grunge, and you certainly don’t need the wallet of a rock star to stay in this bustling neighbourhood. If you’re mindful of your holiday budget, there are plenty of affordable options in town, with the bonus of being close to attractions.

The comfortable Wilshire Crest Hotel is conveniently positioned within steps of the fringe of Beverly Hills and walking distance from the Farmers Market and La Brea Tar Pits. Best Western Sunset Plaza, complete with an outdoor pool, hot tubs and fitness centre, is a great alternative located on Sunset Boulevard.
