Absorbing the city life

It's safe to say that nearly every Fiji visitor has been to Nadi. It is a transportation hub for international travellers, and while many are only there long enough to catch their boat or seaplane to their final destination, this buzzing city may surprise with its selection of quality dining, shopping and staying options.

Mercure and Novotel both offer quality locations close to Nadi's city centre. Both are within minutes to the Nadi Town Markets. Or, head to the coast for a stay along Newtown Beach. Club Fiji Resort, Smugglers Cove Beach Resort & Spa and Aquarius On The Beach all offer waterfront locations with 3-star service, comfortable rooms and reasonable rates.

Escape to Denarau Island

Head less than 15 minutes north west of the city and you'll hit Denarau Island. This is the start of the Fiji that most travellers think of, teeming with swish resort getaways along the waterfront. Port Denarau is popular with holiday makers with its many shops and restaurants. The island is also home to the Denarau Golf Course.

5-star luxury is the norm throughout Denaru with many international chains offering up extravagant waterfront resorts. The Radisson Blu and Sheraton are just two examples, each with all the trappings of luxury accommodation in a beautiful garden setting. Hilton, Sofitel and Westin also offer quality locations in Denarau.

The gateway to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands

Beyond the shores of Nadi, the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands call to travellers eager to recharge amidst the secluded shores of these remote archipelagos. Both encompass a combined total of approximately 40 small islands. Let your troubles melt away as you dive, snorkel or sunbathe along the shores of any one of the many tranquil resorts on offer.

The Mamanuca archipelago has historically been the more popular with many islands offering premium accommodation. If you'd like to splash out, consider a stay at the Sheraton on Tokoriki Island. If you're watching your budget, head for the Yasawa Islands. These less travelled islands feature a number of lower cost accommodation, such as the Naqalia Lodge, that will have you soaking up the sun in style.
