Downtown chic

Minneapolis is a chic urban centre with a vibrant downtown area that provides an alluring mix of sharp architectural design, tranquil parks and fine-dining. Stop off at one of the many shopping boutiques, or get your cultural fix at the Guthrie Theatre and Walker Art Centre. Most buildings are connected via skyways, which makes it all accessible on foot, even in the winter.

Staying at the heart of it all will help ensure your time is well spent exploring every inch of this vibrant area. Star-rated luxury is well represented with such names as Westin, Hotel Ivy and The Marque offering sleek modern style. The Holiday Inn Express also offers a location in the downtown area for more budget-friendly rates.

The 'City of Lakes'

Minneapolis is known as the 'City of Lakes' for good reason. It is home to the Chain of Lakes where locals and visitors converge for a little outdoor fun. Walking paths, canoeing and live music are popular through the summer. As the snow begins to fall, you'll find ice fishing and pond hockey along the shore.

Finding accommodation close to the lakes is easy, with the city centre a mere 15 minutes away. Though, if you'd like to get a bit closer, Evelo's Bed and Breakfast is a great option for personalised service and Victorian charm just five minutes from the waterside. Alternatively, the Sheraton Minneapolis Midtown Hotel offers 3.5-star service just ten minutes away.

Double your fun in the Twin Cities

A trip to Minneapolis often means zipping over to St Paul. The two make up the iconic Twin Cities and are just 15 minutes apart. While St Paul is smaller than its twin, it still features an abundance of things to see and do. Follow the trail of F Scott Fitzgerald, or sample traditional Hmong dishes at the International Markets.

The variety of St Paul extends to its accommodation with a range of great hotels to choose from. International chains such as Best Western, Holiday Inn and Doubletree by Hilton all offer a comfortable stay with very reasonable rates.  Though, if you'd like to splash out, a stay at the 4-star Saint Paul Hotel is well worth considering.
