Capital Port Louis' colonial charm

The Mauritius capital of Port Louis is tucked neatly between the mountains and the ocean, offering beautiful vistas no matter which way you're facing. Spend your days hiking up Signal Mountain, perusing the historic bazaar, savouring the tropical nightlife along the Caudan Waterfront or having a flutter at the Champ de Mars Racecourse.

For a taste of luxury in paradise, you'll fall in love with the 5-star experience at the Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel, while the Le Suffren Hotel & Marina has a selection of 4-star rooms and suites perfect for business or leisure travellers. Alternatively, the Mon Choix bed and breakfast ecolodge adds a personal touch to the Mauritius accommodation scene.

Swanky style in seaside Flic-en-Flac

On the mid-west coast of the island, the curiously named Flic-en-Flac has grown from a sleepy fishing village to become one of Mauritius' most popular tourism spots thanks to a lengthy stretch of beautiful beachscape and top quality scuba dive sites nearby.

The majority of upmarket Mauritius hotels are found in Flic-en-Flac, including familiar favourites such as the Hilton Mauritius Resort & Spa and the Sofitel Mauritius L'Imperial Resort & Spa – both offering decadent spa treatments and multiple fine dining options on site. Chances are you won't leave Flic-en-Flac without being pampered, with further hotels including Pearle Beach Resort & Spa and Aanari Hotel & Spa.

Bunk down bayside at Grand-Baie or Blue Bay

In Mauritius' north, Grand-Baie (Grand Bay) is a picturesque resort town where you can enjoy quality beach time, a variety of water sports and some of the best shopping and nightlife on the island. The Beachcomber brand has a stronghold on the Grand-Baie hotel market, boasting the 4-star Le Mauricia, luxurious Royal Palm and family-friendly Le Canonnier.

One of the most authentically Mauritian districts of the island is Blue Bay in the south east corner – its intricate web of reef in the Blue Bay Marine Park makes the area a favourite playground for snorkelers. Among the top stays in Blue Bay are the Blue Lagoon Beach Hotel and the Shandrani Resort & Spa.
