The Imperial Citadel

Most people begin their Hue explorations at the city’s crown jewel, the Imperial Citadel. A surprisingly peaceful enclave amid the bustle of the city centre, Vietnam’s former seat of government is a sprawling, atmospheric area of temples, pavilions, galleries and royal quarters.

Given the World Heritage-listed Hue is easily walkable, there are plenty of hotels that encircle the historic site. Thanh Noi Hotel nestles on the eastern edge of the grounds and awards guests with boutique rooms and outdoor pool in a tranquil garden setting, while the Muong Thanh Hotel offers sweeping views of the Perfume River.

Luxury on the Perfume River

A life source for many, the winding Perfume River crosses through the city of Hue. With the old city and Citadel to the north, and much of the newer development to the south, the banks of this picturesque expanse are dotted with sculptures, promenades and some pretty spectacular hotels.

Overlooking the river and Trang Tien Bridge, you can luxuriate in a traditional suite and enjoy a full range of facilities like eclectic dining venues and an outdoor pool at the Saigon Morin. If you’re seeking further pampering, the La Residence Hotel & Spa offers an artful blend of old-world opulence and contemporary charm, world-class dining and bespoke spa treatments.

The city or the sea

Whether you’re budget-conscious or willing to splash out, Hue’s hotels run the gamut from cheap and cheerful guesthouses to luxury residences fit for a king or queen. With the likes of affordable Mondial Hotel Hue and Asia Hotel Hue, you can stay within the city’s heart to experience the locals’ high-energy pace of life, or venture further out of town for a little more peace and quiet.

Overlooking the fishing boats, Abalone Resort and Spa enjoys a picture-perfect setting on the banks of Tam Giang Lagoon, a short 15-minute drive from the city. If your tastes are a little more discerning, or you simply want to treat yourself, Ana Mandara Hue incorporates the finest in hospitality and luxury facilities on a private beachfront setting.
