Quayside attractions and views await
Situated on the River Tyne, Gateshead is connected to the opposite city of Newcastle by several bridges including the iconic Gateshead Millennium Bridge, which actually tilts upwards to let ships pass underneath. These bridges, numerous bars and restaurants, historic buildings and the river make up the district of Quayside.
Hotels along the river have an ideal location for letting you see the man-made and natural highlights of this area. With Gateshead boasting a considerably entertaining nightlife, and Newcastle's famed clubbing and bar scene just across the Tyne, there's rarely a night when you can't find something fun to do around town. From quiet restaurants and intimate hole-in-the-wall bars, to live music venues and wild student club nights, there are plenty of ways to see in the next day.
For a close proximity to nightlife on both sides of the river, you can stay at the Ramada Encore within brightly-lit rooms with plush bedding. If you prefer to be a bit further back from the nightly action, the historic Gladstone Guest House might be a better option.
Sights within the city
Gateshead often sees many of its visitors venturing across the river to the better-known city of Newcastle. However, you'd be amiss to forget to visit some of Gateshead's own fascinating attractions such as the waterfront performance venue, Sage Gateshead, and the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art.
If you spend your nights at the Eslington Villa, you'll be able to enjoy beautiful gardens and Victorian-style architecture. Not to mention, the cities expansive Saltwell Park only a few minutes away. Alternatively, you might want to check in at the family-run Durham House Hotel for a homely atmosphere and quiet lodgings.
