Urban cowboy
El Paso may not be as big as Houston or Dallas, but this city still provides a vibrant cosmopolitan vibe that entertains travellers with a varied blend of culture, history, nightlife and accommodation. You may want to spend the day exploring Fort Bliss and the Mission Trail. Then, enjoy the evening at one of the city's many nightlife venues.
This urban hub also features a full list of available accommodation with hotels to suit many styles and budgets. Rooms are available at the historic Camino Real, which houses an iconic 80-year-old Tiffany glass dome. Alternatively, big names such as the Holiday Inn and Double Tree offer locations just minutes from the Mission Trail.
More than a desert landscape
El Paso showcases its sweeping western landscape with such attractions as the Franklin Mountains State Park. It is one of the largest urban parks in the US and offers fantastic hiking and cycling. Hop aboard the Wyler Aerial Tramway for a bird's eye view of it all, including sweeping panoramas across the city.
You may want to consider a stay close to the park to experience the beauty of these natural areas first hand. The Candlewood Suites El Paso is within close proximity, providing easy access to the aerial tram as well as Fort Bliss, the Scenic Drive and El Paso Zoo.
Get outside of the city
It seems remiss to visit El Paso and not get a little taste of the Old West. Perhaps one of the best ways to do this is to get out of town and explore the surrounding region. Head north just over the border to New Mexico to visit the Chihenne Ranch where you can herd cattle, visit Native American sites and tour old ghost towns.
For the full, authentic experience, the Chihenne Ranch offers overnight accommodation in a rustic lodge with comfortable bunks and a dining hall. Alternatively, day trips from El Paso are entirely possible. Staying in the city offers a larger variety of accommodation with the Hampton Inn, Hilton and Radisson offering up comfortable stays.
