Rock and shop in Downtown Austin

Austin has a rich history with music and anyone who lives there has embraced the live music culture, which exists practically everywhere including grocery stores, council meetings, outdoor festivals and in the airport. When it comes to shopping, Austin provides a unique experience with boutiques, department stores and antique shops. Many of the live music venues, bars and shops can be found in Downtown Austin.

If you’re visiting on a budget, stay at the Hampton Inn, which offers free breakfast and a pool, or at the La Quinta Inn, located right in the centre of downtown. Splurging is easily done at the Driskill Hotel, one of the most haunted hotels in America, and at the Four Seasons, positioned on Lady Bird Lake.

A growing culture south of the river

Austin’s districts south of Colorado River have become more popular thanks to a recent influx of young people. If you’re staying around this area, take a walk through Zilker Park where you can go for a dip in the Barton Springs Pool, enjoy a movie at the Hillside Theatre and wander around the Botanical Gardens.

Hang out with fellow travellers in a social environment at the HI Austin Hostel, which is only minutes from Zilker Park and popular music areas. The Hyatt Regency offers tranquillity on the shore of Lady Bird Lake, along with yoga classes and a pool.
