One of the most distinct features of the region is its great limestone rocks, spearing the air on land and in the water, making this a rock-climber's heaven and providing ample opportunity for daredevil climbing then freefalling into the water. Krabi Town is the common entry point to the region (there's an international airport) and Ao Nang is the area's most-developed beach. Once a backpacker top spot, there are still cheap digs to be found at Ao Nang but the top end of the hotel market is proliferating. For a slice of quiet, Krabi Province's last untouched beach is Had Yao and there are a handful of guest houses here.
