The country comes to town each year for all the fun of the Royal Melbourne Show. Since 1884, the Royal Melbourne Show has been Victoria's most popular annual community event, now attracting an average 500,000 visitors each year to the Melbourne Showgrounds.
Showcasing the best of rural Victoria, the event includes fun interactive educational activities, thrilling carnival rides, show bags, agricultural exhibitions and competitions, an animal nursery, art, craft, food, wine, spectacular fireworks and much more. Events include everything from dog judging and woodchopping to the prestigious Garryowen Equestrienne Turnout. There's also live music, including emergency services bands, tribute shows and singalongs, children's shows and free entertainment for all the family to enjoy.
See horse events, animal wranglers working with ducks, dogs, horses and livestock, and performances by Australian rock legends. The Show Parade is a must-see event as it makes its way around the showgrounds featuring favourite entertainers, horse, cattle and dogs.
There's also lots of talent on display during the Art, Craft & Cookery Competition, from cake decorating to new media and photography and fashion created from recycled farm materials. Other competitions include judging of alpacas, beef cattle and beef carcases, dairy cattle, dogs, wool fleeces, horses, poultry, sheep and goats. The Action Dog Trials, Dog Jumping Program and Horses in Action are always popular events.
Find delicious gourmet food products for sale in the Grand Pavilion and shopping precincts around the Showgrounds selling pet products, saddles, leather goods, baking supplies, art and craft, confectionery, dairy products and more.
