Feria de Malaga

Timing your trip to Spain to include the Feria de Málaga in your itinerary is a great way to experience all the fun, passion and cultural traditions of Andalusia. During the Feria de Málaga (Malaga Festival), the city of Málaga on the Costa del Sol, buzzes with colour and energy, with locals dressed in traditional costume and streets filled with live music, flamenco dancing and food stalls serving up typical Andalusian cuisine.

During the day, Málaga's historic city centre moves back in time, with horses clip-clopping through the streets carrying people dressed in traditional garb. Gaily decorated food stalls offer local delicacies accompanied by a vino fino (sherry) or a sweet Malaga wine and there's music and dancing aplenty.

In the evening, the real de la feria (the festival proper) shifts south-west of the centre of the city to the port of Cortijo de Torres, where more than 200 pavilions are open to the public, each hosted by a different local group or association. There are passionate flamenco dance performances, traditional pena music groups, pop and flamenco bands and competitions. The port is lit up by a blaze of fireworks, turning the city into a kaleidoscope of light and colour.

The feria is also Málaga's main bullfighting season, so this is also a good time to watch the most skilled matadors strut their stuff at the Plaza de Toros.
