Located on the northern coast of New South Wales, the Byron breaks have attracted surfers to the area for many, many years – there's always a wave to be caught on one of the town's seven beaches. If being under water is more your style, Julian Rocks, just off the coast of Byron Bay, is one of Australia's premier dive locations.
The highlight of Byron Bay – aside from the truly genuine hospitality of the local community – is undoubtedly Cape Byron. The imposing Cape Byron Lighthouse, built in 1901, is best viewed at sunrise, when you'll also be amongst the first people in Australia to see the sun rise – Cape Byron is the most easterly point on the Australian mainland.

Byron Bay is also home to a number of stellar events: the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival, Splendour in the Grass Music Festival and the Byron Bay Writers Festival are amongst them. The pristine hinterland behind the Bay is filled with lush rainforest, majestic waterfalls and charming farmland, making it perfect for a relaxing jaunt out of Byron. So grab a chai tea, let that hair out and relax into the local groove – even though it's tiny, Byron Bay has so much to offer!
