Regularly voted one of the best places to visit in Australia
The tropical oasis is sandwiched between two World Heritage Listed jewels: the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest. The breathtaking Great Barrier Reef is a short boat ride off shore, accessible by many boat and helicopter tours departing Port Douglas. You can see above and below the ocean with fishing tours, snorkelling excursions, dive trips and scenic flights. The Daintree Rainforest, pushing right up against the back of Port Douglas, is home to some of Australia's most awe-inspiring scenery. The Mossman Gorge is well worth a visit, as are the Atherton Tablelands and Cape Tribulation. These can be done via 4WD Safari lasting anywhere from a few hours to a week.

However, it can't all be glorious adventure – for those times where you just need to lay back and relax, Port Douglas has plenty to offer. Balmy tropical days can be spent relaxing at a day spa, exploring the cute boutiques or local markets along the main street, lying on the palm-fringed beaches or trying some of the exquisite cuisine at a local restaurant (seafood is a speciality).
If you like waterfalls, you'll love the Daintree region!
Whether you get your adrenaline hit from diving alongside sharks and rays or finding a good bargain at the craft market, Port Douglas is the place to be – let the adventure begin!
