Getting to Papeete
Flights to Tahiti land at Papeete Airport; French Polynesia’s only international terminal. Cheap direct flights are available from Auckland where the flying time is approximately five hours.
Airlines from Australia
While there are no direct Papeete flights from Australia, Qantas does operate code share flights from Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney via Auckland. Code share flights are in conjunction with Air Tahiti Nui, the flag carrier of French Polynesia. Air Tahiti Nui operates three weekly services from Auckland.
Air New Zealand serves the Auckland to Papeete route four times weekly with convenient connections available from most Australian capital cities.
Tahiti’s Faa'a International Airport (PPT)
Tahiti’s Faa'a International Airport (PPT) is approximately 5 kilometres from the city centre. While the terminal is fairly large for an island this size, the terminal can get busy if more than one international flight arrives at a time. The airport features several gift shops, a restaurant, an internet café and car rental facilities. In the event you want to do some exploring before flying out, storage lockers for bags are available for a fee in the parking area of the airport.
The tropical island paradise of Tahiti is famous for its inviting hospitality, incredible scenery and of course the stunning tranquil beaches that surround it. Tahiti and the other beautiful islands of French Polynesia such as Bora Bora have long been a dream destination for many and there are few images as inviting and exotic as that of a bungalow on stilts peacefully resting above the clear blue waters along the coral rich Polynesian coastline.
The interior landscape of the island, with its high mountain peaks and deep, narrow valleys is covered in dense, green rainforest making for an impressively dramatic backdrop to the already stunning beaches. And while there are plenty of gorgeous palm tree lined white sand beaches, the island’s volcanic past has also produced unique stretches of equally breathtaking black sand beaches. It is along these romantic settings where many of the luxury resorts can be found and from where you can enjoy a holiday of peaceful solitude or one that is filled with adventure. The beauty is that in Tahiti, it’s all about you; just take in the breathtaking scenery and go with the flow.
