Getting to Maui

While there are no direct flights from Australia to Maui, there are numerous airlines that offer cheap flights to Maui via Honolulu. From Honolulu, connections to Maui are available on three domestic U.S. airlines – Hawaiian Airlines, Island Air and Go! Airlines. Flying time from Australia to Honolulu is approximately 10 hours while the short connecting sector to Kahului Airport on Maui is less than 30 minutes.

Airlines from Australia

There are a number of choices when looking for flights to Maui. Hawaiian Airlines is the only airline that offers service from Australia to Kahului Airport on Maui. Maui flights on Hawaiian Airlines depart from Brisbane and Sydney with a stop in Honolulu. Easy connections are available throughout Australia on Hawaiian’s codeshare partner Virgin Australia.

Both Qantas and Jetstar operate flights from Sydney and Melbourne to Honolulu. Air New Zealand provides service to Honolulu from most Australian capital cities via Auckland. Fiji Airways also serves Honolulu with one stop service via Nadi.

Kahului International Airport (OGG)

Maui’s airport is located just east of Kahului City on the island’s northwest side. A small but modern terminal, OGG offers plentiful Taxi and private shuttle service while nearby hotels and resorts provide free shuttles for guests. Most visitors to the island rent cars due to the limited reach of public transport and there are a number of car rental agencies that operate from the arrivals area of the airport.

The second largest of the magnificent Hawaiian Islands, Maui is a tropical paradise filled with immeasurable beauty. The dramatic landscape of Maui’s interior is one of ancient volcanoes and towering mountains where lush vegetation clings to the steep, sloping cliffs. Island streams form picturesque waterfalls that cascade into inviting pools of fresh, clear water. Nearby, gardens of native flowers and plants grow thick and colourful making for a lovely island oasis.

Maui

Of course with Maui, the beach is what usually comes to mind first and this is one place that will not disappoint. Swaying palm trees line long stretches of magnificent white sand beaches where endless days of swimming and sunbathing can be enjoyed. Maui is a favourite destination for surfers too with some of the best waves in the world, where boogie boarders and wind surfers can also get in on the action. There are plenty of calm, quiet coves that are perfect for snorkelling while exploring the quiet coves and nearby rock formations and cliff tops.
