Getting to Kona
Cheap flights to Kona require a stop in Honolulu. Flying time from Sydney and Brisbane is approximately 10 hours to Honolulu while the quick hop to Kona is under 30 minutes.
Airlines from Australia
Virgin Australia alliance partner Hawaiian Airlines is the only airline with flights to Kona. Hawaiian offers daily service from Sydney to Honolulu and operates four times weekly from Brisbane. Fast connections are available to Kona.
Qantas and Jetstar fly to Honolulu from Sydney and Melbourne.
Fiji Airways flies to Honolulu via its Nadi hub. Flights to Honolulu depart from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne on Fiji Airways.
Kona Airport (KOA)
While there are no free shuttle services into the city, the airport does have a plentiful selection of taxis and car rental agencies. Many travellers rent cars due to the lack of public transport on the island.

The Hulihe’e Palace was a royal holiday house and today it is open for tours. Even hundreds of years ago Kona was recognised as a place of enjoyment and rest. The rich land was also recognised for its fertile characteristics and today it is a large coffee growing region, one that produces rich, robust beans. Getting out and seeing the land is one of the best ways to enjoy Kona. Volcanoes National Park is unlike any national park in the world, where gas and steam can still be seen rising from its centre. An excellent place for kayaking and snorkelling is Kealakekua Bay. Not only is this the spot where Captain James Cook first landed but its natural beauty is mesmerising. In fact just about anywhere you go in Kona is incredible and if you’re an outdoor lover or adventure seeker you will feel right at home here.
