Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is known for its lively festivals throughout the year and one of the most fascinating is Loi Krathong, or Yi Peng as it’s known locally. Held every December, Yi Peng is famous for its delicate paper sky lanterns which are lighted and then sent floating gently up into the air. The glowing sky is filled with thousands of these hovering lanterns, making for a lasting memory of one of Chiang Mai’s most popular celebrations. Of course excellent Thai food can be found here too and freshly prepared traditional dishes are never far away. Explore the beautiful Buddhist temples that grace the city’s landscape where over 300 of these ornate and intricate places of worship can be found gracing the city. However you want to experience local Thai culture, Chiang Mai provides a fascinating immersion.
