Getting to Cancun
From Australia, the main transit points for flights to Cancun are Los Angeles, San Francisco and Dallas. Four airlines offer cheap flights between Australia and Cancun via the U.S. west coast where many Cancun flights depart from. Flying time to the U.S. is approximately 13 hours from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Cancun flights from Los Angeles are generally about 5 hours in duration.
Airlines from Australia
The following airlines offer flights to Cancun from Australia.
Virgin Australia flies from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to Los Angeles (LAX) with convenient connections to Cancun on their alliance partners Delta Air Lines and Virgin America.
Qantas also offers service from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to LAX in conjunction with alliance partner American Airlines. Additionally Qantas offers a direct flight from Sydney to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and onward connections on American.
Delta Airlines flies from Sydney to LAX with daily service to Cancun.
United Airlines serves Sydney and Melbourne with flights to both Los Angeles and San Francisco. Connections are available on their vast Mexico and Central America network.
Cancun International Airport (CUN)
Cancun features three terminal buildings. Flights operated by U.S. airlines arrive and depart from Terminal 3. Aero Mexico flights from the U.S. arrive at Terminal 2. The airport is about a 25 minute drive to the city and transportation is readily available. Taxis, shuttle buses as well as car rentals can be arranged from the airport.
