Guide To Adelaide Airport (ADL)

About Adelaide Airport

Adelaide Airport is the gateway to South Australia and everything this state has to offer, from the Barossa Valley wine region and Kangaroo Island to the spectacular Limestone Coast and of course, Adelaide itself. The airport is a hub for eight international airlines, five domestic airlines and a number of regional and charter airlines. Everything is under one roof at Adelaide Airport, which is Australia’s fifth busiest airport, servicing about 8 million passengers a year.

What Facilities Are At Adelaide Airport?

Adelaide Airport looks after its growing number of passengers with a wide range of services and facilities.

Check-in

For the majority of airlines at Adelaide Airport, passenger check-in is located on Level 2. It’s always advisable to arrive early for your flight, and Adelaide Airport recommends that you confirm your check-in time with your airline directly. Flight arrival and departure times as well as nominated gates will be clearly displayed on the information screens throughout the terminal. Adelaide Airport also offers lowered check-in desks for those in wheelchairs, and several check-in desks have a Counter Hearing System (CHS) installed.

Baggage

Baggage allowances vary not only by type of ticket but also by airline, so if you have any queries on what your baggage limits may be (quantity, size, type and weight), you’ll need to check with your airline or Flight Centre Travel Expert. If you need to store luggage at the airport, baggage storage lockers are located on the ground floor of the multi-level car park, near the car rental offices.

Is there a currency exchange?

There are three Travelex stores at Adelaide Airport. You can purchase or exchange over 50 foreign currencies, before and after customs. Another easy option is to drop into a Travel Money Oz store to pick up your foreign currency (and get a great rate!) before you head to the airport.

What are the other services and facilities?

  • Baggage storage lockers
  • Currency exchange and banking
  • Family facilities
  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Medical assistance if needed
  • Pet collection
  • Postal services
  • Smoking areas
  • Prayer room

What lounges are at Adelaide Airport?

The Terminal Expansion Project is well underway at Adelaide Airport, which will see some changes upon completion, such as the relocation of the Virgin Australia Lounge and the introduction of a new ‘common user’ premium international lounge. Until then, here’s a quick guide to what lounges you’ll find at Adelaide Airport.

Qantas Club

Qantas has a Qantas Club lounge located at Adelaide Airport's domestic terminal and an International Business Lounge at the international terminal. Virgin Australia lounge members as well as Velocity Platinum and Gold members are welcome to enjoy the lounge's facilities which include showers, entertainment, free Wi-Fi, business facilities including private meeting rooms, as well as complimentary food and beverages. Note that this lounge will be relocated and upgraded as part of Adelaide Airport’s Terminal Expansion Project.

What’s the best way to get to and from Adelaide Airport?

Adelaide Airport is located about 6km from the city centre of Adelaide, so it’s a relatively easy journey to and from the airport. There are multiple public transport options, taxis and ride share services, as well as car hire and several parking alternatives.

Car hire

With so much to see beyond ‘the city of churches’, car hire is an ideal transport option for anyone planning to explore more of South Australia. Your Flight Centre Travel Expert can arrange your Adelaide car hire for you as part of your holiday, or you can do it yourself here. Car rental desks are located on the ground level of the terminal, next to the baggage claim area. There are six car rental companies with desks at Adelaide Airport. To return your rental car when you’re flying out of Adelaide, simply follow the signs to the relevant car rental area on the ground floor of the multi-level car park.

Adelaide Airport parking

Parking at Adelaide Airport presents you with two options.

Terminal Car Park: A sheltered walk away, just a few minutes from check-in, is the Terminal Car Park. This undercover, premium parking is closest to the terminal, and is perfect for business travel or picking up and dropping off family and friends. There are motorcycle bays on all levels of the car park, and there are also four dedicated car parks for charging battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs). These are located together on Level 2, and charging cables are provided for each bay.

Long Term Car Park: For the most economical parking, the Long Term Car Park is the way to go. The car park is less than a 10-minute walk from the terminal, with a free shuttle bus service operating between the car park and the terminal every 20 minutes between 4.30am and 11.20pm.

Note that you can book your parking online at Adelaide Airport’s website before you arrive.

Taxi

Adelaide Airport provides a designated taxi rank to the left of the pedestrian plaza as you walk out of the terminal. Concierges help with the flow of traffic and allocation of taxis to passengers. There is a $3 levy added to fares for taxis leaving the airport and a taxi to the city will cost you about $25. Journey time is approximately 15 minutes. If you need to organise taxis with baby capsules, wheelchair access, five-seaters and maxi taxis for larger groups or station wagons for large amounts of baggage, just speak to the Concierge.

Public Transport

JetExpress is an express double decker bus service between the airport and the city, while JetBus also travels to the city, as well as Glenelg and West Beach, servicing all bus stops enroute. Both services are operated by Adelaide Metro and tickets can be purchased from the driver.

Shuttle Bus

From Adelaide Airport, you can take a shuttle bus to your hotel in the city for only $10. Airport City Shuttle operates the service each way, between the airport and Adelaide hotels and businesses. Just head to the Tourism Bookings Booth when you arrive. This is located centrally, on the ground floor of the terminal. Shuttles run approximately every half hour.

Picking up and dropping off by car

Adelaide Airport has a dedicated Pick-up and Drop-off zone located towards the entry point of the airport, on Sir Richard Williams Avenue. There is strictly no parking in this area, so if you need to wait, the best option is to park in the Terminal Car Park

How do I transfer between terminals?

Happily, you don’t have to. Both domestic and international flights are located in the one terminal at Adelaide Airport, so the transfer is something you don’t need to worry about.

What hotels are near Adelaide Airport?

With Adelaide Airport so close to the city of Adelaide, the need for airport hotels is not as great as in other cities, such as Melbourne. However, there is still comfort in heading straight to your room after a late flight or saving a little journey time before an early departure. Adelaide Airport has one hotel on site at the airport.

Atura Adelaide Airport

You won’t find a more conveniently located hotel than Atura Adelaide Airport, which is linked to the airport’s domestic and international check-in areas via a direct walkway. In fact, it’s hard to know where the hotel starts and the airport ends, with Atura Adelaide Airport’s restaurant, bar, lobby and public spaces seamlessly integrated with the airport plaza and broader terminal. You can be relaxing in your room in no time. Other features include 24-hour reception, free Wi-Fi, onsite gym and eight versatile meeting spaces if you need to do business while you’re there.

If you're looking for hotels in Adelaide city or surrounding areas, you can browse through all the Adelaide accommodation options and book your hotel right now.
