Economy – Main Cabin
Virgin America’s economy class features an attractively styled cabin with mood lighting and swank looking black leather seats. Each seat offers a reasonable amount of leg space with a 32 inch seat pitch as well as an adjustable head-rest for additional comfort.
Economy - Main Cabin Select
Main Cabin Select takes the already comfortable economy seat but adds an additional six inches of leg room, for an impressive 38 inch seat pitch. Other benefits include a priority security lane in the terminal, advanced boarding and dedicated overhead compartment space. Passengers can enjoy the added comfort of Main Cabin Select for an additional fee.
Entertainment: Each seat comes equipped with a personal seat back video screen for on-demand entertainment. Virgin America uses an in-flight entertainment system called Red. This functional, user friendly system uses touch screen technology and is easily navigable. On-demand entertainment is available for a fee in Main Cabin while Main Cabin Select passengers have access to select programming free of charge. Passengers will also find handy power outlets for laptop and tablet or smart phone recharge making it possible to use these devices throughout the flight.
Food and Beverage: Drinks such as sodas, juices, tea and coffee and water are complimentary on all flights. Beer, wine and spirits may be purchased. Depending on the flight length, light snacks or meals are served. Flights under two hours offer light snacks which may be purchased in the main cabin and which are complimentary in Main Cabin Select. Flights over 2 hours in duration offer substantial sandwich, wrap or salad plates. These items are available for purchase in the Main Cabin with a complimentary selection available in Main Cabin Select. Menu items may be purchased from the seat back video screen and flight attendants will deliver it directly to your seat.
First Class
Enjoy the comfort of a first class leather arm-chair complete with footrest and fifty percent more recline. All-you-can-eat food, unlimited drinks and a long list of on-demand entertainment also comes standard with the first class seat. First Class benefits also extend to the ground with priority check-in and boarding, a dedicated security lane and dedicated overhead locker space.
Entertainment: Virgin America’s popular Red system is used in First Class and offers hundreds of programming options from movies, TV shows, documentaries, games, music and more. Virgin America also offers Wi-Fi as well as USB and power points for personal electronic devices such as laptops and tablets.
Virgin America Baggage Allowance
Carry-on
Guests are allowed one piece of hand luggage which is within the total linear dimensions of 127cm (50 inches) and does not exceed 30lbs or 14kg. Guests are also allowed one personal item in their baggage allowance such as a backpack, briefcase, purse, infant bag or child car seat.
Carry-on items must be able to fit completely under the seat in front of you.
Checked
The free baggage allowance differs depending on the class travelled however guests in each class may check up to 10 bags total for a standard fee per bag. There is a 23kg (50lbs) weight restriction on all baggage and a linear size limit of 157cm (62 inches). Allowances for each class are as follows:
- Main Cabin Economy – Guests in Main Cabin are allowed to check up to 10 bags for a set fee for each bag. Mexico destinations and fully refundable fares only are allowed the first checked bag for free.
- Main Cabin Select – The first checked bag is free. Additional 9 bags are charged a set fee. Mexico destinations receive the first two checked bags at no charge.
- First Class – The first two checked bags are free. Additional 8 bags are charged an extra bag fee for each.
Oversized bags between 63 and 80 inches are charged an additional fee.
Bulky Items
Oversized luggage of up to 80 linear inches is accepted and assessed a fee. Linear dimensions equal length plus width plus height. There is also an additional fee for bags weighing between 23 - 32kg (51 - 70 lbs).
If your bulky item exceeds weight or size limits, it will probably have to be sent as freight.
Infant Baggage
One pram or car seat may be checked for no additional charge if child is travelling with an adult. An infant bag or car seat is also included in the adult carry-on baggage allowance.
Handy things to pack in infant baggage include snacks, wet-wipes and comfort items like a favourite toy or blanket.
Dangerous Goods
Restricted items in baggage include any flammable materials, liquids or gases as well as explosives, fireworks, poisons and any other combustible materials. Sharp objects such as knives, box cutters and scissors are not allowed in cabin luggage along with firearms and guns. For a complete list of restricted items ask your Flight Centre consultant.
Travel-sized toiletries (under 100ml) can usually be purchased at airport pharmacies.
Check in online, at the kiosk or counter
There are three ways to check in for a Virgin America flight – Online, kiosk and airport counter. Here’s some useful information on each method.
Online – Online check-in is available starting 24 hours before flight departure. From the Virgin America website homepage, click on the “check-in” icon, enter the reservation number and passenger name and follow the prompts to complete. Boarding passes may be printed out or saved to a mobile device.
Kiosk – Airport kiosks are quick and easy ways to check-in, select seats and print off boarding passes. Either swipe the credit card used to purchase the flight or enter the reservation number to begin the check-in process. Once check-in is complete, proceed to the bag drop off counter for any checked bags.
Airport Ticket Counter – Present your government issued I.D. and a check-in agent will accept checked bags and issue boarding passes. Guests travelling with pets, those with special needs or unaccompanied minors must check in at the ticket counter.

The Virgin America Loft located at Terminal 3 at Los Angeles International Airport offers a relaxing escape from busy terminals. Passengers can unwind and enjoy complimentary drinks, snacks and various entertainment options.
