Economy
Long Haul – Finnair features a standard economy section with an industry average seat pitch of 31 inches of leg room, and an Economy Comfort section with enhanced personal space. While the in-flight service is similar, Economy Comfort passengers enjoy 7-13cm more leg room, noise cancelling headsets, a more robust headrest and priority boarding.
Finnair provides what is described as a “generous and tasty” hot meal on long-haul flights along with beverages. A mid-flight snack is also provided on most flights. The main meal and snack are always complimentary as are beverages. Finnair also offers an on-board menu with a selection of snacks for purchase. Beer and wine are free of charge however there is a charge for spirits.
Economy seats on Finnair’s A330 and A340 aircraft come equipped with personal seat back video screens for on-demand entertainment. The entertainment system consists of over 70 movies, 150 TV shows and a wide selection of news, documentary shows and music and games. There is also a satellite telephone and electricity power point at each seat. An adaptor is not needed for the power point.
Intra-European – The Finnair domestic and intra-European fleet consists of narrow body aircraft which are fitted in an all economy class arrangement. Seat pitch, a measurement of leg room is an industry standard 31 inches. Coffee, tea and juices are complimentary while snacks are available for purchase from the Sky Bistro in-flight menu. Hot meals can be pre-ordered for longer flights however a minimum 72 hours’ notice is required for the purchased meal. Domestic and Intra-European flights do not offer in-flight entertainment.
Business Class
Long-haul Business Class provides an exceptional level of comfort, privacy and space on routes to North America, the Middle East and Asia. Twelve of Finnair’s fifteen widebody aircraft feature spacious seats that convert to lie-flat beds for a peaceful rest. With generous leg room, personal storage compartments, a large tray table for dining and working and electronic seat controls, the business class environment is geared towards maximum comfort and convenience. The remaining 3 widebody aircraft offer wide, comfortable arm chairs with generous leg room and seat recline.
Restaurant style meals are provided on demand. A choice of entree, main and dessert are served with a selection of fine wines. Finnair Business Class also features Marimekko tableware and textiles as well as stylish cutlery and glassware. A mid-flight snack is also served on long haul flights but is available any time, at the request of the passenger.
Entertainment is found on the 12 inch video screens which are located at each seat. The easy to navigate touch screens provide many hours of viewing and listening enjoyment with a wide selection of movies, TV shows, music and games on offer. A collection of newspapers, magazines are also provided.
Carry-on Baggage
Economy class passengers are allowed one carry-on item up to 8kg (17.5lbs). Business Class, Finnair Plus Platinum, Gold and Silver members are permitted two pieces of cabin luggage, each weighing up to 10kg (22lbs). The maximum dimension of any carry-on bag is 56cm x 45cm x 25cm (22in x 18in x 10in).
In addition to a guest’s carry-on bags, a small personal item such as a hand bag, laptop bag or backpack may also be brought on board. Mobility aids such as crutches or canes are also allowed.
Checked Baggage
The checked baggage allowance can vary widely depending on the routing of the flight, class of travel and frequent flyer status.

Sporting Equipment
Sporting equipment will count towards a passengers checked baggage allowance. Any item that goes above the free allowance will be charged an excess bag fee. If a piece is oversized or above the allowed weight (usually 23kg), additional charges may be applied. Certain types of sporting equipment must be packed according to Finnair specifications. Ask your Flight Centre consultant for complete details on any oversized item or piece of sporting equipment.
To pack a bike in a bike box: turn the handlebars in and secure to the frame, remove pedals and front wheel if possible, lower or remove seat post and deflate tyres.
Musical Equipment
Musical instruments that are within the carry-on bag dimensions may be brought on board as cabin luggage however the item will count towards the passenger’s carry-on allowance.
Instruments outside of standard carry-on measurements must be packed in a hard sided case and checked.
Restricted or Dangerous Goods
Restricted items in carry-on baggage include sharp objects such as knives and scissors, box cutters, knitting needles and corkscrews. Liquids and gels in containers must not exceed 100mL and must be packed in a clear, re-sealable bag for inspection at the security check point.
Dangerous goods such as fireworks, explosives, flammable liquids and gasses, lithium batteries, toxins and other potentially harmful substances are never permitted in checked luggage. This includes petrol powered machinery even when drained of fuel. Ask your Flight Centre consultant for clarification on any item you have a question about.
If in doubt, leave it out. Even if you accidentally take a dangerous good on board an aircraft you can be fined and penalised.
Check-in
Passengers may check-in for their flight at the Finnair ticket counter upon arrival at the airport. Check-in at the counter opens several hours before departure and typically closes one hour prior to scheduled departure. At airports where there are Finnair self-service kiosks, passengers may check-in at these stations, select their seats and print off boarding passes and checked baggage tags. Once checked in, the guest may proceed to the bag drop off line if travelling with checked baggage.
Web and Mobile Check-in
Passengers have the option to check-in using a computer or mobile device for flights with an AY2000 series flight number. Check-in opens 24 before departure for flights to the USA and 36 hours for all other destinations. An electronic boarding pass will be sent to the passenger’s mobile device or a paper boarding pass may be printed at time of check-in.
Automatic Check-in
Intra-European and domestic Finnair and Flybe flights operated with an AY2000 series flight number qualify for the automatic check-in option. Passengers with a mobile number in their Finnair Plus profile will be automatically checked in for their flight and an electronic boarding pass will be sent directly to the mobile device in the form of a text. The seat assignment and link to the boarding pass will be provided.

Lounges
Finnair maintains two lounges at Helsinki Airport. Business Class passengers, Finnair Plus and top-tier Oneworld members may use either lounge. Lounge access may also be purchased at lounge reception. Lounge guests will enjoy comfortable seating areas, a business centre, complimentary snacks and beverages, private showers and a Finnish sauna.
Business Class passengers flying on a ticketed Oneworld partner airline flight as well as top-tier Oneworld frequent flyers have access to hundreds of additional lounges across the world through the alliance.
Finnair Plus
Members of the Finnair Plus frequent flyer program are able to earn points for a variety of awards, including free flights, upgrades, lounge entry, an increased baggage allowance and more. There are four tiers to the program – Basic, Silver, Gold and Platinum, each with their own set of useful benefits.
Basic membership is the stepping stone to the enhanced benefits of Silver. At 40,000 points, Silver status is granted. Benefits include a 10 percent point bonus, priority lane access for check-in and security, access to the Finnair lounge and one extra checked bag.
Gold membership is reached at 90,000 miles when a 15 percent point bonus becomes effective. In addition to Silver benefits, Gold members receive complementary upgrades to Business Class.
Platinum is reached at 150,000 points and provides a 25 percent point bonus and access to Finnair and Oneworld lounges regardless of class of travel.
Fleet
Finnair operates a mixed fleet of Airbus narrow body and wide body aircraft for long haul and intra-European flying. Embraer aircraft are used for domestic and short haul regional services.
Long Haul flights to North America, the Middle East and Asia are operated with widebody A330 and A340 equipment. Finnair is also the European launch customer for the new Airbus A350 and has a total of 11 of the ultra-modern planes on order. Deliveries of the new Airbus begin in the second half of 2015 and they will be used to replace the airline’s fleet of A340s. The first routes to see the A350 in late 2015, early 2016 will be Helsinki to Shanghai, Bangkok and Beijing.
